Focus session on Photophysics of Cold Molecules

Andrey Vilesov and Jochen Küpper

New Orleans, Louisiana, March 10-11, 2008

The chemical physics of cold molecules is an area of intense current interest; the subject ranges from one in which molecular spectroscopy is accomplished in liquid helium droplets to the search for quantum effects in other fluids, and the study of Bose-Einstein condensation for molecular species produced and/or cooled by optical and also deceleration techniques. These various subjects will be discussed in this focus session.

This session is the succession of a series of special symposia that started in 2000 with an ACS symposium on "Very Low Temperature Spectroscopy and Dynamics" organized by William C. Stwalley and Giancinto Scoles. It was continued in 2004 by an ACS symposium on "Chemistry at ultra-low temperatures" organized by Roger E. Miller and Gerard Meijer.

In order to facilitate participation of young scientists a contest for the best talk given by a student or a post-doc is organized.
